TRACKING DOWN or LOCATING a FIGHT REQUEST

"Can you find this fight for me?"  Is a common question I get asked. Chances are Ive already told you I didnt have it, and you have asked several sources before me, its a hard to get fight. I always will take a shot at tracking down a fight if its possible.

Some fights for whatever reason seem to elude being preservered or archived. Lots of reason may apply Here is my personal opinion/ criteria if a fight can be located. A few obvious questions will be presented.

1) Was it televiesed?

A) IF YES WHAT ERA? I.E. 60's, 70's  ect
- LOCALLY? NATIONALLY? REGIONALLY,? WORLD WIDE?
- Who broadcast the fight originally? ABC,  CBS, NBC ect
- This all affect the possibiltiy by reducing or increasing the odds of finding a fight once thought unfindable.

B)  if not televised were cameras filming..often called an off tv fight or non televised
sometimes fights that are not aired are still filmed and put away somewhere, while not conisered rare, that simply are not common but can be found.

C) If neither A or B , only thing left is a hand held camera , personal video camera shot from a far or ringside..at one ----time this were considered rare gems...and still are but only for so long, with the internet and all its functions,  a rare fight wont be rare once 50,000 people a day can see it or part of it....but quality ususally suffers on these type of sharing methods.

2) Quality of video?
some fights are considered RARE and should be if they have a mint version and most everyone else has a bad version,,,if the fight is old from the 80s, its not excpected to be perfect, but doesnt have to be unwatchable...but a very nice rare treat to get a well preserved MINT copy of an old fight.

3) Complete fights vs Complete Broadcasts

                                                     TRADE TALK
(AND other Helpful Information  for collecting  fights as a HOBBY)

In my opinion there are 4 categories which boxing matches can be grouped

1)  ULTRA RARE
Probably doesnt excist nor have I even heard of anyone having them and dont much count on anyone saying they have them. But they are fights that happened and you never know who may have it.

EXAMPLES
Sugar Ray Robinson vs Kid Gavilan 1,2  (1948, 1949)
Trevor Berbick W12 Mitch Blood Green (1985)
Mike Tyson KO3 Larry Sims (1985)

2) RARE
Fights that simply arent common, they arent sold in the junk career sets you see floating around.
Could consist of current year fights or very old fights that simply werent broadcast in very many places but are known to available somewhere.
EXAMPLES
Satoshi Shingaki TKO8 Elmer Magallano- IBF Bantamweight Title (1984)
In-Joo Cho W12 Gerry Penalosa II- WBC Super Flyweight Title (2000)
Brian Viloria W12 Julio Cesar Miranda- WBO flyweight title (2011)

3) LOOKING TO TRADE FOR GENERAL LIST
This category is basically fights I dont have that would interest me to trade or even buy because I dont have them, only because I just cant go out and buy and trade 24/7, not because I cant find them anywhere, I know they are out there.. I  try to keep a list of what I would like to eventually get

4) COMMON FIGHTS
Consist of weekly shows that are current, all current popular fighters, pretty nuch anything that is aired more than once and nation or world wide.  Basically anything new that has been aired , shoulod I have missed it, or simply dont have time to record everything, these are items I can from anyone at anytime, so they arent really worth alot to me as in trading for something vintage. I would trade something similar that is in same category.

Collecting fights is a Hobby, much like collecting comics or baseball cards.  I Like to trade because its an oppurtunity to get fights that I dont have, fights I missed, or ones I had at one time but lost or cant find..Its also good to build up trusting good solid traders you can count on.  Also both traders toget good fights and not have to buy all the time. Everyone that has a collection has bought or traded value for them.

"Pro Traders" look for  Old/ Rare/ Vintage stuff all the time .

"General Traders"  are in to what they personally like

"Newbie Traders"  usually  have collected every other sport, tv shows ect and boxing for them is another item simply because its out there and they usually have zero knowledge of the sport and think  all trades are equal if you send 2 dvds and get 2 dvds back, regardless of whats on them  .

I trade as often  as my free time will permit me to do. This is a hobby and do this in my off time when I'm not working. I also have collected and been a fan for 25 plus years. Which means I cant trade with everyone, Its got to be something that is worth time and what is being picked from my list.

You  cant go into the local baseball card shop and say you want to trade your 2011 favorite Atlanta Brave player for a 1952 Micky Mantle card.  Which is what some people think is ok with boxing fights collecting.
A fight shown on a premium channel that airs around the world, and is reaired up to 10 times after. With all the tivos, dvd, vcrs,  file sharing, everyone that loves boxing will have these, so dont think a 2 hour dvd of 2 Pacman vs Mosley and Margarito is gonna from last year is gonna be same value for sugar ray robinson fights that have not been replayed on the classic networks or fights from the 1980s  that are in great shape. that most people dont have.  Its not the dvd, its the content thats on it, Ive paid up to 100.00 for 2 fights and if there was a fight I really wanted, and have been looking forever ive trade say 5-10 fights for that 1.  It was worth it to me, might not be for someone else.  All traders are usally good people and as long as everyone is on the same page with what each other is wanting, shouldnt be any  problems.
